People are not allowed to visit Cannon Beach as of yesterday due to the pandemic. Thus the beaches are relatively empty and relatively free of litter.

  • open fire pits placed about 30 yards west of the Tolovana Inn on the beach for public use. General Manager states these are permitted yearly through Oregon State Parks.

  • several very large logs appear to have been placed deep in the sand to prevent bluff erosion. Safety comes to mind. No evidence of tractor work, but we are having high seas and surf which reach this bluff

Lots of driftwood, large and small from recent high surf activity. More rocks exposed at the southern end of my mile and beyond. Several bluffs and sea walls appear at risk from high surf and erosion...

Some sand erosion noted. Most barnacles and mussels have been eroded off exposed rocks that were visible today. No sea stars noted.

Wonderful sunny winter day with very low tide today at the time of my walk. Sand has returned in most places on my mile. Area is pretty clean...no large pieces of debris. Large logs have moved close...

Beach very clean compared to summertime. Many small pieces of colored plastic common in wrack. Dog feces as usual in and out of bags.

Appears to have increased sand levels as winter approaches. Lots of plastic bags and small plastic pieces of all kinds on beach and in wrack lines. Noted are beach toys that have been left on beach....

This beach is a heavily visited area from late spring to fall. Mile 312 has at least 11 access points and many homes in the adjacent area. Debris from human activity is a problem throughout the year...
